Common Kingfisher - Thalangama, Sri Lanka

Common Kingfisher photographed at Thalangama this morning. The bird was far away and I had to crop the image a fair bit. It was pretty quiet from a birding perspective but Cinnamon bitterns have made an appearance.

Black-rumped Flameback - Thalangama, Sri Lanka

Black-rumped Flamebacks (Dinopium benghalense) are relatively common in Colombo and its suburbs. I've been able to photograph them at home on numerous occasions. Although I photographed this bird from below, I thought the head position made the composition a bit more interesting.

Common Kingfisher - Thalangama, Sri Lanka

I'd been after decent shots of a Common Kingfisher for some time but could never get close enough to the bird. This changed in Talangama when I was driving passed the tank. I was able to stop the vehicle, get out of the tank and move to within a couple of meters of the bird. It was not bothered by my presence and I spent a good 15 minutes photographing it before driving off.
