Lime Swallowtail (Papilio demoleus) - Buduruwagala, Sri Lanka
I came across this Lime Swallowtail when we stopped off for lunch at Buduruwagala, close to the famous rock carvings, in North-Central Sri Lanka. The butterfly was flying around the shrubs along the waterline when I photographed it. Fortunately I was able to get relatively close to the butterfly to take these shots.

The Lime butterfly is common and it is considered the most widespread swallowtail in the world. It's range covers Asia as well as Papua New Guinea, Australia and Hawaii. It has recently spread across to Jamaica and the Dominican Republic as well. The widespread range of the butterfly shows the adaptability and tolerance of this species.

These photographs were taken with the Canon 7D and the 24-105mm lens. I didn't have to use the tripod as these photographs were taken at around noon. I would have liked to photograph the butterfly from different angles but I was unable to do so.
